The cardioprotective bioactive compounds in fermented alcoholic beverages

This review discusses the effect of low-to-moderate drinking on cardiovascular health and the biological mechanisms behind the observed bioactivity of certain alcoholic beverages. The health significance of dealcoholized alcoholic beverages is also discussed concerning evidence from ex vivo and in vitro investigations. We also review innovations in the harvesting of bioactive components produced in the brewing process to develop novel cardioprotective products.
